Manchester City head to West Brom on Tuesday night knowing victory will propel them to the top of the Premier League table.

Raheem Sterling, who scored when Manchester City last visited The Hawthorns, is 9/2 to open the scoring at West Brom. Pep Guardiola will hope Sterling can provide an attacking outlet with Kevin De Bruyne out injured, and the statistics suggest the England man is up to the task.

Sterling has had the most shots, played the most key passes and provided the most assists of anyone in the Manchester City squad bar De Bruyne this season. He’s 33/1 to score first in a 3-1 win against Sam Allardyce’s men.

Sterling will be supported in the final third by Ilkay Gundogan, who has taken on more attacking responsibility at City in recent weeks. The German, who was on penalty duty against Aston Villa and is 10/3 to score first, has scored more goals per 90 than any other City player this term, and only Sterling and De Bruyne have a higher xG. You can get 9/1 on Gundogan to score from outside the area, like he did against Crystal Palace 10 days ago.

But you can’t rule out goals from the back. Joao Cancelo – 17/2 to score any time – has played more key passes (four) and had more shots (14) than any of his defensive colleagues, while John Stones has scored three goals in his last five games and is an enticing 9/1 to score a header against West Brom.

Phil Foden is another goalscoring asset for City and is 14/1 to score first in either a 3-0 or a 4-0 win. Considering City have kept 11 clean sheets since the start of December, those odds look good, but West Brom will be out to spoil the party. Allardyce has pulled off impressive results against Liverpool and Wolves, while the side will be buoyed by the fact they drew 1-1 at City under Slaven Bilic before the new year.

The Baggies are 18/1 to spring a shock and win at The Hawthorns tonight.
