Virtus Bologna have had an interesting start to the EuroLeague season so far with three wins and four defeats from their opening seven games to currently sit 14th in the table, though just one win outside the playoffs. As things stand they would need more than one victory to jump up into the top eight as a result of their points difference of -41, the lowest of the five teams tied on three wins.

Three of Virtus Bologna’s four defeats came in their opening four games, losing to AS Monaco, Zalgiris and Partizan while beating Bayern Munich. They ended a two-game losing streak in round five by beating Real Madrid but then lost to LDLC ASVEL. Last time out it was another victory, this time against fellow Italians Olimpia Milano despite falling away in the final quarter.

Opponents Valencia have managed just one more win than Virtus Bologna but thanks to that victory they sit in the early playoff position, seventh out of eight alongside four other teams on four victories. Like Virtus Bologna, Valencia also lost three of their opening four games, beaten by Baskonia, LDLC ASVEL and Fenerbahce while beating Anadolu Efes.

However, unlike Virtus Bologna, Valencia look to have turned things around to find form. In round five Valencia beat ALBA Berlin and they have built on that with victories over Olympiacos and then AS Monaco, the latter coming thanks to a strong third quarter with Chris Jones getting 27 points.
