Villarreal and Granada will square off at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Wednesday at 8.30pm (UK time), with both clubs aiming to build on their recent La Liga victories.

Unai Emery’s side have been in excellent shape this season and losing just one of their last 24 games across all competitions. They are currently on a four-game winning streak, which includes an amazing 0-4 away win at Celta Vigo last time out in La Liga, as well as a narrow 0-1 victory on the road at Tenerife in the Copa del Rey.

The Yellow Submarine currently sit fifth in La Liga with 32 points to their name after 18 games, just five points behind second-placed Real Madrid. On home soil, Villarreal are unbeaten in all 12 of their competitive fixtures this term, keeping four clean sheets in their most recent seven.

Meanwhile, Granada’s recent form has been a complete mixed bag with three defeats, three victories and a penalty-shootout win in their most recent seven competitive matches. They have managed to find some form of late though, winning 2-0 at home against Osasuna last time out in La Liga, and 1-2 on the road at Malaga in their Copa del Rey midweek clash.

Away from home, Granada are winless in two La Liga trips at the moment, but they have done well to clinch victory in each of their last three Copa del Rey away matches. Granada are currently seventh in La Liga, but they are just three points adrift of the European places.

Can Villarreal extend their unbeaten home streak to 13 competitive games? Or will Granada secure their first-ever victory at the Estadio de la Ceramica?

Villarreal and Granada’s previous line-ups:

  • Villarreal (vs Tenerife): Rulli; Costa, Foyth, Funes Mori, Estupinan; Pino, Trigueros, Coquelin, Baena; Raba, Bacca.
  • Granada (vs Malaga): Escandell; Sanchez, Perez, Vallejo, Foulquier; Milla, Eteki, Vico, Soro, Puertas; Molina.

Mario Gaspar, Vicente Iborra and Alberto Moreno are all nearing returns to the first-team fold for the hosts but this game may have come too soon. Unai Emery is expected to make wholesale changes from his Copa del Rey starting XI in midweek, which will likely see the return of Gerard Moreno and Pau Torres.

For Granada, Diego Martinez is also likely to make a number of changes after his side’s domestic cup win, with the likes of Rui Silva and Yangel Herrera returning to the first team. However, Victor Diaz and Maxime Gonalons are currently sidelined, while Neyder Lozano is a doubt.
