Villarreal will be hoping to string together successive La Liga wins for the first time this season when they host Osasuna on Sunday at 5:30pm (UK time)

Unai Emery’s side are the last remaining unbeaten team in La Liga this season, but they have drawn five of their seven games so far, with just two wins (both coming in their past three matches) including one over Real Betis just before the international break. However, they face an Osasuna side currently creeping on the edge of the top four, just three points behind early leaders Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad.

Serge Aurier makes himself available for Unai Emery

Shortly after the team split for the international break, Villarreal announced a new signing. Serge Aurier left Tottenham Hotspur in the summer by mutual consent but had not found a new club.

As a free agent, he was able to register later in the year and that is exactly what happened, with Villarreal snapping the full-back up until the end of the current campaign with the option of extending for a further two years.

Despite not playing for a club at the start of the campaign, as captain, Aurier was still called up for Ivory Coast and featured for them other the international break, playing 135 minutes. And Aurier feels he is ready to get straight into things at Villarreal, starting with the visit of Osasuna on Sunday.

“I’m very happy. I can’t wait to start and give my thanks to the coaching staff and the president. I know the club and it’s a good place to continue my career. I know that we can do a good job together here,” he said during his presentation on Friday.

“It was a long trip with the national team. I played 90 minutes in the first game, and half of the second. I’m ready to play in the next game. I’m completely focused on Sunday’s game and I’m available for the manager. I’m ready to played and give my all for Villarreal.”

Aurier also talked of his relationship with Emery, having worked alongside each other at Paris Saint-Germain, and his lofty hopes for his time in Spain.

“I know him well. We worked together in Paris. We get on really well,” he added.

“He called me to come to Villarreal and I’m very excited to work with him again. It’s a great opportunity for me. The aim is to win a title. I haven’t won a title for a while, and the club has a winning mentality, as we saw last year, but the most important thing is enjoying myself, enjoying the club, enjoying my family and showing my quality and why I am here.

“I love the atmosphere at the stadium with the fans. I remember the Villarreal teams with Robert Pires and Marcos Senna when I was younger.”
