Barcelona will be looking to get their La Liga title defence back on track when they visit Villarreal this weekend.

Quique Setién’s men find themselves four points behind eternal rivals Real Madrid with five matches remaining.

Villarreal, meanwhile, are seeking a return to Champions League football and could finish this round sitting in the top four if results go their way.

Villarreal & Barcelona’s confirmed line-ups:

Villarreal & Barcelona’s previous line-ups:

  • Villarreal (vs Real Betis): Asenjo; Peña, Albiol, Torres, Moreno; Gómez, Trigueros, Anguissa, Ontiveros; Moreno, Bacca.
  • Barcelona (vs Atlético Madrid): Ter Stegen; Semedo, Piqué, Lenglet, Alba; Rakitic, Busquets, Vidal; Puig; Messi, Suárez.

Ramiro Funes Mori is the only player unavailable to Villarreal boss Javier Calleja this weekend though Vicente Iborra remains a doubt. Samuel Umtiti, Frenkie de Jong and Ousmane Dembélé remain in the physio room for Barcelona.

Antoine Griezmann could come back into the starting lineup after getting less than five minutes toward the end of the midweek draw with his former club Atletico Madrid, a cameo that left Diego Simeone lost for words.

“Antoine is fine, he is a great professional. I have exchanged a few words with him,” Setien told reporters this week. “He is an extraordinary, professional boy and it will not affect him when he has to play again because he is a very mentally strong boy and I am sure that we will have him at 100% when he has to go back to the field.”

Players to watch:

Villarreal: The Yellow Submarine have found their groove of late and can see Champions League football in the distance. They go into matchday 34 looking to score in an eighth consecutive game and despite the opposition must fancy their chances, with Gerard Moreno in top form. He’s registered half of Villarreal’s last eight goals and, across La Liga, only Messi and Karim Benzema have outscored him this season.

Barcelona: Very few Barcelona players came out of their 2-2 draw with Atletico Madrid looking impressive. Someone that did was 20-year-old playmaker Riqui Puig, who played the full 90 minutes, and proved to be a creative force. Quique Setién is expected to give the La Masia academy graduate a third consecutive start. He’s yet to contribute with a goal or assist but it won’t be long before Puig corrects this statistic.

Scoreline prediction: Villarreal 1-2 Barcelona
