Victor Lindelof agent: ‘Man Utd told us there was no chance of Barcelona transfer’
Barcelona contacted Manchester United “on numerous occasions” about signing Victor Lindelof, according to the defender’s agent.
The Blaugrana had been looking to bolster their defence over the summer, with Dutch centre-back Matthijs de Ligt their top priority.
Could Lindelof have signed for Barcelona? Five things to know…
- Victor Lindelof has been at Manchester United since 2017.
- The Swedish defender has played 75 games for the Red Devils so far.
- Barcelona had been looking to sign a centre-back over the summer transfer window.
- The Blaugrana’s main target was Matthijs de Ligt, but he signed for Juventus.
- And Victor Lindelof’s agent has revealed Barcelona then contacted Man Utd, but there was “no chance” of him being sold.

De Ligt would ultimately join Juventus, meaning Barcelona had to look elsewhere, though Ernesto Valverde’s men ended the summer transfer window without signing a new centre-back.
According to the agent of Lindelof, Barcelona made numerous attempts to talk to Manchester United about signing the Swedish defender, but the Premier League club refused to listen to any offers.
“Lindelof was perhaps Man Utd’s best player last season, and there was a lot of interest from clubs that are even better [than United] at the moment,” he told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.
“When Matthijs de Ligt chose Juventus, Victor was pronounced Barcelona’s first choice.
“His way of playing, his DNA, is very close to Barcelona’s way of playing. He is one of the world’s best centre-backs with the ball at his feet, and Barcelona wanted him. That’s how it was. I can talk about that now.
“They contacted Ed Woodward on numerous occasions with concrete offers. I had a meeting with their transfer manager, Matt Judge, to try to make a transition. But they just said: ‘There is no chance. Victor is one of our best players’.
“It ended up being a new agreement instead, even though Victor actually had three years left. Usually, they do not make extensions with players who have so long left on the contract, but when there was an interest at this level they had no other option.”
Lindelof has played in every Premier League game for Manchester United so far this season and will be expected to start in the Red Devils’ clash against Arsenal on Monday.

Lindelof: I see my future at Man Utd
Despite being the subject to Barcelona’s interest over the summer, Lindelof pledged his long-term future to Manchester United by signing a new four-and-a-half-year deal.
And the 25-year-old insists he sees his future at Old Trafford, saying: “If you are playing for Manchester United [scrutiny] is part of it. If you do not perform you hear about it, it’s quite normal.
“I could see my future here so that’s why I signed a new contract – I’m really happy about that. We have a good thing going and I still want to win the big trophies with this club, that has been my goal since I signed.”
