The USA secured its place with a 4-0 win against Colombia. Founded by an American – Dwight F. Davis – in 1900. With 32, the USA holds the record for most titles. Between 1968 and 1973 they were unbeatable, winning 17 titles on the bounce. The USA has also finished as runner-up a record 29 time most recently in 2004. Without a title for 15 years, Mardy Fish is counting on his top two seeds Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe. Great Britain gained direct access via a wild card. Since losing the first Davis Cup in 1900 they’ve lifted the trophy 10 times, most recently in 2015 against Belgium in Ghent, under Leon Smith, who was appointed in 2010. He will be buoyed by the return of former world no.1 Andy Murray, who debuted in 2005 and played such an integral role in the 2015 victory against Belgium, winning his two singles matches as well as doubles alongside brother Jamie. Joining him is Britain’s no.1 Cameron Norrie, currently at a career-high world ranking of no.8 and fresh from taking down world no.4 Carlos Alcaraz in Cincinnati in August.
