Union Berlin welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Friday at 19:30 pm (UK Time), with the hosts looking to extend their unbeaten home streak to six games.
Union Berlin are definitely the surprise package of this Bundesliga season, as the minnows with one of the lowest budgets in the division are currently sixth in the standings, just four points behind the Champions League places. Union Berlin have only lost once throughout this Bundesliga campaign, which was a 3-1 loss at the hands of city rivals Hertha Berlin. However, it has to be said that they had the lead in that match, but Robert Andrich received a red card and Union were forced to play with 10 men for 70 minutes. In addition, Union did well to secure back-to-back draws against Bayern Munich and a Stuttgart side that demolished Borussia Dortmund 5-1 in the previous round.
Meanwhile, Dortmund did well to bounce back after their terrible 1-5 home loss against Stuttgart last weekend, as they won 2-1 on the road at Werder Bremen in midweek. They find themselves fourth in the league table, but the other top five teams have a game in hand.
The worrying fact is that BVB have conceded at least one goal in each of their last six competitive outings and the new interim manager Edin Terzic will want to solve this issue pretty fast as his team has a difficult schedule in the New Year. Dortmund should feel confident ahead of this trip as they are currently unbeaten in six consecutive trips while winning five in the process. They won 5-0 the last time they faced Union Berlin but lost 3-1 in their most recent trip to Berlin.
Can Union Berlin secure a sixth positive result in a row on home soil? Or will Borussia Dortmund extend their unbeaten away streak to seven games?
