Euro 2020 is finally upon us and Turkey face Italy in the tournament’s opening game on Friday night (20:00 kick-off).
The Azzurri are unbeaten in 27 games, the second longest undefeated sequence in their history, while Turkey have never beaten their Group A opponents.
Turkey will be without qualifying top scorer Cenk Tosun, who is set to miss the entire tournament due to a knee injury, while Marco Verratti is yet to recover from a knee problem of his own.
Those two nuggets of team news mean Burak Yilmaz and Manuel Locatelli are expected to start at the Stadio Olimpico – and both men feature in Squawka’s ‘Request A Bet’ selections with Sky Bet (18+ only).
Scroll down to see our four stat-guided selections, including two shots on target shouts and two card choices.
RAB Selection 1: Ciro Immobile 2+ shots on target
Reasoning: The Italian striker has had 10 shots on target in his last three competitive games at international level (4 vs Lithuania, 3 vs Bulgaria, 3 vs Northern Ireland). He averaged a shot on target every 20 minutes in those three World Cup qualifying games.
RAB Selection 2: Burak Yilmaz 1+ shot on target
Reasoning: The Lille forward had seven shots on target in his seven competitive appearances for Turkey this season. Yilmaz has also averaged 1.4 shots on target per 90 minutes for club and country this season, including 1.4 per 90 minutes in Lille’s title-winning triumph where he scored 16 goals. The 35-year-old will be confident he can carry his club form onto the international stage.
RAB Selection 3: Okay Yokuşlu to be carded
Reasoning: The midfielder was booked eight times in 18 league starts for Celta Vigo and West Brom during the 2020/21 season. He also committed three fouls per 90 minutes in Turkey’s three World Cup qualifying games in 2021, along with 2.8 fouls per 90 minutes in the Nations League.
RAB Selection 4: Manuel Locatelli to be carded
Reasoning: The Sassuolo midfielder was booked nine times in 32 starts in Serie A during the 2020/21 season. He also picked up a yellow card in two of his three World Cup qualifying appearances for Italy this year.
