Reports claim Manchester United are tracking Brest midfielder Romain Faivre while Napoli have not given up hope in their long-term pursuit of Kieran Tierney.

Arsenal beat the Serie A side to Tierney’s signature in 2019 but it is claimed the full-back is firmly in their sights.

Elsewhere, doubts have been cast over Paris Saint-Germain’s ability to afford Lionel Messi this summer should the Argentine call time on his Barcelona career.

Napoli want Tierney

Napoli have reportedly made Kieran Tierney a long-term target after a failed attempt to sign the Arsenal full-back when he was at Celtic in 2019.

Tierney instead joined the Gunners at the start of last season, signing a five-year deal for a fee in the region of £25million.

But Napoli have not given up hope of eventually landing Tierney and The Telegraph claims they are looking at short-term options with a view to bringing the 23-year-old to Italy further down the line.

PSG ‘can’t afford Messi’

French football journalist Julien Laurens believes Paris Saint-Germain’s hopes of signing Lionel Messi this summer are “unrealistic”.

Should he choose to, Messi will be free to leave Barcelona on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer. PSG and Manchester City are among the favourites to sign him but the six-time Ballon d’Or winner has also revealed a desire to play in the States.

However, Laurens believes it will be impossible for PSG to simultneaously pay the wages of Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

Laurens told Sky Sports: “Only those three would be around 150 million euros, just their salaries, every year. Financially, it’s not possible. But they seem to say that they are going to try. But I don’t think it’s realistic.”

Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on Brest midfielder Romain Faivre.

The 22-year-old has four goals and three assists in Ligue 1 this term and United have been alerted to his impressive rise under Olivier Dall’Oglio, according to Le10 Sport in France.

Faivre’s current contract runs until 2024 but it is claimed at least one other European heavyweight, believed to be PSG, are monitoring his situation.

Van den Berg loan exit?

Liverpool teenager Sepp van den Berg could be granted a loan move away from Anfield this month.

The centre-back has not featured for Jurgen Klopp’s senior side this season despite significant injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

Fabinho and Jordan Henderson were preferred at the heart of defence for the recent defeat to Southampton and Goal claim talks have already taken place with clubs in Belgium, Switzerland and Germany over a loan move for Van den Berg.

The Reds do not plan to stand in the way of the 19-year-old if he seeks regular game time elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been linked with a number of centre-backs this January as Jurgen Klopp reportedly looks to plug the holes in his injury-hit back line.
