Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton face off on Wednesday evening in the FA Cup fourth round.

The previous meeting between the two sides ended 1-1 at St Mary’s, with Sofiane Boufal scoring late to cancel out Son Heung-min’s opener, confirming the replay.

As a result of the replay, both sides have seen their mid-season break cut short. Neither will want this inconvenience to be in vain as they bid for a place in the fifth round, where Norwich City await.

Ones to watch

Tottenham: Son Heung-min

Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Manchester City at the weekend brought plaudits for new signing Steven Bergwijn but it also saw Son Heung-min on the scoresheet again.

With Harry Kane injured, Son has had to share the attacking responsibilities with Lucas and he has done exactly that. The South Korean has scored in his past three games across all competitions, including the initial FA Cup fourth-round tie against Southampton.

If Mourinho looks to take the FA Cup seriously, Son is likely to start and will hope to continue his good goalscoring run into Tottenham’s mid-season break.

Key stat: Son Heung-min has scored five goals in 10 games against Southampton, only netting more against Borussia Dortmund (9).

Southampton: Danny Ings

Danny Ings

While Son is enjoying a run of goals, Southampton’s key man Danny Ings is enduring a drought. The Englishman has now gone four games without scoring, his second-longest goalless run of the season, a five-match streak came before he found form.

Despite the drought, Ings remains a threat and leads the way as Southampton’s top scorer with 16 goals across all competitions. He did also record an assist for Boufal’s goal against Tottenham in the initial match but will be looking to get back amongst the goals to help Southampton book their place in the fifth round.

Key stat: Five of Danny Ings’ 16 goals in all competitions this season have come against teams from the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’.

Confirmed Southampton line-up

Squawka prediction

These two sides go into the game off the back of very different results following the initial draw. Southampton suffered a rout at the hands of Premier League leaders Liverpool, losing 4-0 at Anfield, while Tottenham beat Manchester City 2-0.

Mourinho’s men will take inspiration from the win, stifling Pep Guardiola’s side, and look to put in a similar performance to secure their place in the next round.

Scoreline prediction: Tottenham 2-0 Southampton
