After some early hiccups under manager Antonio Conte, Tottenham finished the 2021/22 season as one of the Premier League’s hottest teams, taking 13 of a possible 15 points in their last five league games (equal to the marks of Man City and Liverpool), and snagging fourth place. In gearing up for what could be a huge 2022/23 campaign, Spurs squared off against a K-League Stars side (they won 6-3 win) and Sevilla (a 1-1 draw), both in Korea, before returning to Europe, where, thanks to a Harry Kane brace, they defeated Rangers 2-1 at Ibrox.

Spurs have been busy in the summer transfer window, making some rather significant additions: Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Djed Spence, Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Clement Lenglet have all been brought in, the latter on loan from Barcelona.

Roma, meanwhile, are coming off of a rough domestic 2021/22 campaign, in which they finished sixth in Serie A, seven points adrift of Juventus in fourth, securing Europa League football by a single point. On the bright side, however, Roma did hoist the inaugural, immeasurably valuable (don’t believe me? Just ask José) Europa Conference League trophy. Roma are in the midst of an incredible heavy preseason slate, having already played five games, with another to come after this Saturday night clash in Haifa. They won the first two, home games against Sunderland and Portuguese side Portimonense, but have since lost to Portuguese giants Sporting CP and Serie B Ascoli, with a 1-1 draw against Nice sandwiched in between.

Joining the side is what looks like an outstanding crop of transfers: 25-year-old Turkish right back Zeki Celik, Nemanja Matić and Paulo Dybala, whose reception in Rome was positively bananas:

After this showdown, Tottenham will return to England, to prepare for their August 6 Premier League opener, at home against Southampton. Roma will also be returning to Europe after this contest, though on their return to Italy, Roma will play another preseason friendly (their only one at the Stadio Olimpico), against Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk on August 7, before kicking off their Serie A campaign on August 14, away to Salernitana.

Scoreline prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 Roma
