Chelsea will be hoping they can keep hold of their advantage when they face Tottenham in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday at 7:45pm (UK time).

The Blues were in full control of the first leg at Stamford Bridge last week and ran out 2-0 winners thanks to Kai Havertz and an own goal from Ben Davies. Tottenham, however, are looking to become just the second team to reach the EFL Cup final having lost the semi-final first leg by more than one goal, after Aston Villa in 1993/94.

Tottenham team news

Eric Dier was not involved in Tottenham’s FA Cup win over Morecambe at the weekend but he is expected to be a welcome return to Antonio Conte’s backline for the visit of Chelsea. The Englishman may replace Japhet Tanganga, who had a torrid time in the first leg. However, Tottenham did suffer a blow last week with Son Heung-min likely ruled out for the rest of the month due to a muscle injury, joining Cristian Romero and Steven Bergwijn on the sidelines.

Tottenham predicted XI: Lloris; Dier, Sanchez, Davies; Emerson, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Reguilon; Lo Celso, Lucas; Kane.

Chelsea team news

Chelsea played a back four in the first leg and there is every chance they could do the same again this week. Cesar Azpilicueta is expected to return to the XI after missing the win over Chesterfield, rested following cramp. Thiago Silva and N’Golo Kante could also be available after COVID. However, the Blues remain without Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy, with the latter on Africa Cup of Nations duty.

Chelsea predicted XI: Arrizabalaga; Azpilicueta, Silva, Rudiger, Alonso; Kovacic, Saul; Ziyech, Mount, Hudson-Odoi; Lukaku.

Scoreline prediction: Tottenham 2-2 Chelsea
