Romelu Lukaku needs to be more like Timo Werner, says Thomas Tuchel
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel believes Romelu Lukaku needs to use Timo Werner as a source of inspiration if he is to make his Stamford Bridge return a success.
The struggling Belgian rejoined Chelsea in the summer after a highly-fruitful spell in Italy with current Serie A champions Inter Milan, but he has largely failed to vindicate the £97.5m fee the Blues forked out for him at the start of 2021/22.
Despite bagging on his second debut for the club against Arsenal, the 28-year-old has only managed to add another four league goals to that tally, and as a result, he has failed to make Tuchel’s starting XI in any of the club’s previous five Premier League games.

Werner, by contrast, has hit a bit of form over the last two games, bagging a brace in the 6-0 demolition job of Southampton and also getting on the scoresheet at the Bernabeu in Chelsea’s unfortunate Champions League exit to Real Madrid earlier in the week.
The German is another forward who has struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis since joining Chelsea in a vastly-expensive deal, but Tuchel believes his current work ethic is one that Lukaku should look to emulate if he is to shift the narrative in west London.
