Former Real Madrid midfielder Thomas Gravesen has backed Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen to succeed in Spain should he move.

The Dane has been linked with a move away from Spurs with Real Madrid high on the list of those reportedly interested, as Los Blancos look for a potential Luka Modric replacement.

Could Eriksen move to Real Madrid? Four key things to know…

  1. Christian Eriksen joined Tottenham from Ajax in 2013.
  2. The Dane has since made 275 appearances for Spurs and has been a key part of the club’s improvements under Mauricio Pochettino.
  3. As a result, Eriksen has been linked with a move away from Spurs this summer, with Real Madrid reportedly interested.
  4. And Thomas Gravesen believes his compatriot can succeed where the likes of Philippe Coutinho have failed in La Liga.

And Gravesen, who himself made a move from Premier League side Everton to Real Madrid, believes Eriksen’s skill can see him fit in at any club in the world.

“I’ve always said that only Eriksen thinks carefully about where he plays,” Gravesen told Ekstra Bladet, as reported by Marca.

“He can choose from any club in the world!

“There isn’t a place where Christian couldn’t play, and he’ll be great. It will be brilliant to see another Dane at Real Madrid.

“He has the talent to do it, and he would be under [Zinedine] Zidane’s wings at a club in the process of rebuilding.

“Christian knows that he can and must gamble. When a club are willing to pay such a huge price for him it’s because they want to build a team around Eriksen.”

Eriksen was part of the Tottenham team which remarkable came from 3-0 down on aggregate to reach their first Champions League final on away goals after a 3-3 draw with Ajax.

Eriksen can succeed where Coutinho failed

Eriksen is not the only Premier League player being linked with a move to La Liga, with Eden Hazard also reportedly a Real Madrid target. The pair would follow in the footsteps of Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018.

And though the Brazilian has struggled to find his feet in Catalonia, Gravesen expects Eriksen to fare much better.

He added: “Sometimes there’s a risk that he could end up like Philippe Coutinho.

“However, if Real Madrid spend millions on Eriksen, it’s because they have a clear plan for him.

“We would feel proud of having another Danish player [at Real Madrid], and it will also raise interest in Danish talent.”
