Things were slightly more straightforward last time out though, with Fritz only needing two sets to beat Sebastian Baez 6-1, 6-2.
Marton Fucsovics, meanwhile, is on his best run at Indian Wells in what is his sixth consecutive showing at the tournament. Making his debut in 2017, Fucsovics didn’t make it out of qualifying but has since had two second round exits and two in the first round.
The Hungarian was one of the unseeded players at Indian Wells this year and entered in the first round, meaning he has already played three matches to reach this stage. JJ Wolf, Alex de Minaur and Alex Molcan have all fallen with the latter two in straight sets, and also identical 6-4, 6-2 scores.
