Mainz are still aiming to salvage their Bundesliga campaign when they travel to the Mercedes-Benz Arena to take on Stuttgart on Friday at 7:30 pm (UK Time).
Stuttgart showed some signs of life a couple of weeks ago, but they have now returned to losing ways as they were beaten by both Arminia Bielefeld and Freiburg in their most recent two Bundesliga matches. They still find themselves mid-table with 22 points under their belts, but they are now just seven points above the relegation zone. Their recent home form has been a mixed bag with two defeats, two draws and just one victory in their last five games across all competitions. The most worrying thing is that Stuttgart are still without victory in the Bundesliga on home soil after eight rounds, having registered three defeats and five draws in the process.
Meanwhile, Mainz’s 10-game winless streak across all competitions ended last weekend as they managed a surprising 3-2 home victory over RB Leipzig. They now have 10 points under their belts but they are still seven points from safety. Mainz are second from bottom and hold the second-worst defensive record in the division with 38 goals conceded in 18 rounds. Away from home, Mainz have only won once this season and are currently winless in four league trips. However, they did well to secure a 1-1 away draw at Dortmund in their most recent Bundesliga trip and another positive fact is that they managed to score at least once in five of their last six away league games.
Can Stuttgart secure their first victory on home soil in this 2020/21 Bundesliga season? Or will Mainz win two league games in a row for the first time this season?
