Alexander Zverev is one of tennis’ rising stars and came into the 2022 Italian Open as the second seed, with only world number one Novak Djokovic ranked higher, and was consequently given a bye to the second round. Zverev began against Argentinian Sebastian Baez beating him in straight sets, winning 7-6 (8-6) 6-3, before eliminating Australian Alex de Minaur. in the following round — 6-3 7-6 (7-5) — to set up a quarter-final meeting with Chilean Cristian Garin where it was a somewhat more straightforward affair. Zverev won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, and now chases a third Italian Open final appearance in six years.

It was another three sets win in the third round against Karen Khachanov. He’d lose the first set 6-4 but came back 6-0 and 6-3 to book a spot in the quarter-finals for the second consecutive year. It was there where he met Jannik Sinner and claimed a straight set success, winning 7-6 (7-5) 6-2, and now is one game away from a first Italian Open final appearance.
