Harry Kane and Heung-min Son were the difference as Spurs beat West Ham 3-1 at Tottenham Stadium.

The win sees Antonio Conte’s men leapfrog both West Ham and Manchester United up into fifth, just three points behind incumbants Arsenal (albeit having played a game more) with nine games left to play in the Premier League.

Coming off their incredible extra-time win against Sevilla in the Europa League, many had hoped for West Ham to pose a serious challenge to Antonio Conte’s Spurs who haven’t won two consecutive games since Boxing Day.

And as much as the match was in the balance until the very end of the game, in all honesty it was never close and all because of Spurs’ supreme striking duo; Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

Obviously Spurs are more than just two men, but it’s almost alarming how good and dominant Kane & Son are. They have connected for a Premier League goal a record 39 times as a duo; their skill-sets are perfectly in concert and opponents just cannot live with them.

The first goal came because Harry Kane burst beyond his man in a wide are and sent in a cross so sharply that in his desperation to stop Son from connecting, Kurt Zouma turned the ball into his own net. That was nine minutes in and just reward for Spurs’ fast start.

After that, West Ham tried to make things happen only to once again be carved apart by the passing genius of Harry Kane. The Englishman found some space in the middle of the park and then lanced an inch-perfect pass through and behind the West Ham defence for his Korean brother-in-arms. Son took up the ball, chuck a quick stepover and smashed it home (via a deflection).

West Ham did bare their fangs and get back into it through Said Benrahma, but throughout the rest of the game the threat of Kane & Son kept Spurs more than in the match.

In truth. Spurs should have scored the third goal much sooner than they did with both men missing chances as West Ham seriously slowed down. However in the end a Kane flick on sent Son away in the 88th minute and the no. 7 duly slotted the ball home to settle the match and go above Kane in the Premier League scoring charts (13 to 12).

It was the 20th time Kane had assisted Son, to go with 19 times Son has assisted Kane. 39 goal combinations between them and a whole lot more where they’ve been hugely involved just not directly linked.

This is surely the greatest double-act in Premier League history. No title, sure, but the symbiosis of their skill-sets and the excellence of their execution is just about all that’s keeping Spurs relevant in the race for the top four.
