Spezia vs AC Milan build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

Last weekend, Spezia got their first win of the season, beating Venezia thanks to an injury-time winner from Mehdi Bourabia and would have hoped to use it to kickstart their campaign. Now in their second consecutive season as a Serie A club, Spezia lost two and drew one of their opening three matches prior to the Venezia win, and had been floating close to the early relegation zone. But any dreams of stringing two wins together were brought to an end in midweek, as Spezia gave Juventus their first league win of the season in a thrilling 3-2 defeat. As a result, Spezia have dropped down to 17th, just one point clear of the relegation zone after five matches.

AC Milan, meanwhile, are one of three teams in Serie A still unbeaten after the first five rounds of fixtures alongside Inter Milan and Napoli. The Rossoneri are currently second in the table with four wins and one draw from their opening five games, behind Inter Milan on goal difference (though they both could fall below still-perfect Napoli before the weekend). Last weekend Milan lost their own perfect start in a draw with Juventus but they bounced back immediately by beating Venezia 2-0 thanks to second-half strikes from Brahim Diaz and Theo Hernandez.

  • Spezia (vs Juventus): Zoet; Amian, Hristov, Nikolaou, Bastoni; Bourabia, Ferrer; Verde, Maggiore, Gyasi; Antiste.
  • AC Milan (vs Venezia): Maignan; Kalulu, Gabbia, Romagnoli, Ballo-Toure; Bennacer, Tonali; Florenzi, Diaz, Leao; Rebic.

Neither side has any fresh injury concerns, but Spezia remain without Kevin Agudelo, Arkadiusz Reca, Ebrima Colley and Leo Sena. AC Milan’s injury list is still long too, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Simon Kjaer, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Rade Krunic and Davide Calabria all out. Olivier Giroud could return to the bench but Alessandro Florenzi is missing with a minor fitness issue.

Player to watch: Brahim Diaz (AC Milan)

With their main strikers still absent from the starting XI at least for the weekend, AC Milan will be hoping Brahim Diaz can work his magic once again to either score or provide for Ante Rebic.

The Spanish midfielder, now on his second season on loan from Real Madrid, has scored three goals so far across all competitions, netting against Sampdoria, Venezia and Liverpool in the Champions League. Those goals have come from 11 shots, four of which have hit the target, and no Milan player has been more prolific than Diaz this season.

But Diaz has also done his bit creatively, creating seven chances so far in the league and Champions League, with only two Milan players (Rebic and Theo Hernandez) managing more. He will be key this weekend.
