By the time Spain come around to face Lithuania, we will already know three of the quarter-finalists as these two nations conclude the action in Berlin on Saturday. The Mercedes-Benz Arena is braced in the German capital for this weekend’s first knockout matches, with the winner of this particular fixture going on to face either Finland or Croatia in the final-eight.

Spain enjoyed a confident group-stage campaign, topping the table with a +63 points difference in which they only lost one of their five games, surprisingly falling to fourth-placed Belgium on matchday three. Sergio Scariolo rallied his side, though, to win their final two Group A matches and tee up this contest.

La Roja are three-time champions of Europe’s much-coveted championship, dominating the continental landscape between 2009 and 2015, in which they claimed three gold medals and finished third in 2013. Having also claimed bronze in 2017’s installation, Scariolo will be desperate to end their one-tournament drought and return the nation back to winning consistent silverware.

Lithuania, meanwhile, scraped into the knockouts after finishing fourth and level on points with fifth-placed Bosnia and Herzegovina, making the last-16 owing to their superior head-to-head record in which they triumphed in a winner-takes-all contest on the final day. The Boogeyman from the East will now look to take that momentum into this match against one of the tournament favourites.
