Sevilla are set to complete their ninth signing of the summer with the acquisition of Porto central midfielder Oliver Torres.

The 24-year-old arrived in Seville on Sunday night and is set to undergo a medical on Monday ahead of a €12m switch.

Torres to Sevilla: Five things to know…

  • Torres progressed through the ranks at Atletico Madrid but moved permanently to Porto in 2017.
  • The 24-year-old has previously worked under former Porto boss and current Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui.
  • He is set to become the club’s ninth signing of the summer.
  • It is believed Torres will cost the Andalusian club around €12m.
  • He will pen a five-year contract and fly out with the rest of the Sevilla squad for their tour of the United States this week.

Having previously working under current Sevillistas manager Julen Lopetegui during the duo’s time together at the Estadio do Dragao, Torres will know what to expect in Andalusia.

The ex-Real Madrid manager initially signed the playmaker on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid in 2014, where he went on to register 40 appearances across all competitions that campaign.

Torres made his loan move permanent in 2017 after Porto parted with €20m for his services, and he has since lifted a Primeira Liga title and won the Supertaca Candido de Oliveira in 2018.

As part of his switch to Sevilla, Atletico Madrid will reportedly receive around €2m as per a 15% future sale clause inserted in his contract by Atleti two years ago. That means Porto are set to be remunerated by half the fee from which they originally paid for Torres’ services.

Sevilla’s business so far

As expected with the reappointment of transfer guru Monchi, Sevilla have been exceptionally busy this summer, brining in no fewer than eight players, with Torres set to become the club’s ninth signing.

Lopetegui has already bolstered his ranks with the signings of Munas Dabbur from Red Bull Salzburg for £13.3m, Diego Carlos from Nantes for the same fee, and Joan Jordan from Eibar for £13.5m.

Elsewhere, Luuk de Jong has joined from PSV Eindhoven for £11.2m, while the club splurged £22.4m to bring Jules Kounde to the Sanchez Pizjuan from Bordeaux.

Finally, Lucas Ocampos has joined from Marseille for £11.7m, Sergio Reguilon has signed on loan from Real Madrid and Fernando has pitched up from Galatasaray for £4m.
