Senegal team news
Aliou Cisse has selected a strong squad for this year’s competition, calling up the likes of Sadio Mane, Idrissa Gueye, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy and Cheikhou Kouyate, as well as a handful of up-and-comers in the form of Marseille duo Bamba Dieng and Pape Gueye. Regulars Ismaila Sarr, Keita Balde and Saliou Ciss are naturally in the 26-man roster. However, there are several players currently unavailable for this opener including Ciss, Bamba Dieng, Mame Baba Thiam, Pape Matar Sarr, Alfred Gomis and Mendy. Koulibaly, Famara Diedhiou and Edouard Mendy are all also ruled out.
Senegal predicted XI: Dieng; Mbaye, Diallo, Cisse, Ballo-Toure; Gueye, Kouyate, I Sarr, Mane, Diallo, Dia.
Zimbabwe team news
The Warriors aren’t blessed with the world-class arsenal that Senegal have at their disposal but they do have one or two key names that could cause some trouble next week. Tino Kadewere of Lyon is arguably their biggest threat. The 26-year-old scored 10 goals in Ligue 1 last season as he finished behind only Karl Toko Ekambi and Memphis Depay as Lyon’s top scorer. Bournemouth’s Jordan Zemura will also be one to keep an eye on as well as Teenage Hadebe of Houston Dynamo.
Zimbabwe predicted XI: Shumba; Murwira, Hadebe, Mudimu, Zemura; Mahachi, Kamusoko, Dube, Musona; Moyo, Kadewere.
Scoreline prediction: Senegal 2-0 Zimbabwe
