Senegal and Guinea will both be looking to secure their spots in the knockout stages of the Africa Cup of Nations when they face off on Friday at 1pm (UK time).

Both sides won their opening matches of the tournament with Senegal beating Zimbabwe 1-0 in dramatic fashion thanks to a 97th-minute Sadio Mane penalty, while Guinea beat Malawi 1-0. Victory for either side would almost guarantee their place in the next round of the tournament even without the other game in the group, but qualification would be secured for a winner if Malawi and Zimbabwe draw.

Senegal team news

Senegal were without a host of players for their first game against Zimbabwe including Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and Fodé Ballo-Touré – and it’s currently unknown whether they will be able to return for this fixture with nine players in total isolating for positive COVID tests. Ismaila Sarr also remains in Spain recovering from a knee injury and is not expected to link up with the Senegal squad until at least the knockout stages, if at all.

Senegal predicted XI: Dieng; Mbaye, Cissé, Kouyaté, Diallo; Sarr, Name, Gueye; Baldé, Diallo, Mané.

Guinea team news

The Guinea team have also been struck by COVID with seven players out including the squad’s top scorer Seydouba Soumah, and their inclusions are currently unknown – though with such a short turnaround between games it’d be surprising to see them back. So, we’re likely to see a similar XI to the one which beat Malawi, but Guinea do have a bit more room to rotate than their opponents.

Guinea predicted XI: A Keita; Sow, M Camara, Conté; Kané, N Keita, Cisse, Diawara, Sylla; Bayo, Kanté.

Scoreline prediction: Senegal 1-0 Guinea
