Sao Paulo vs Fluminense build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:
Sao Paulo, who finished fourth in the Brazilian Serie A last season, have enjoyed their start to 2021 and go into the new league campaign in good form. In the Copa Libertadores, they finished second in their group to qualify for the last-16, losing only one of their six games, against table-toppers Racing. But at the same time they were competing in the Campeonato Paulista which they won, beating Palmeiras 2-0 on aggregate in the final.
Fluminense were two points and one place behind Sao Paulo in the league last season, but joined them in the Copa Libertadores group stage. They had an identical points record to Sao Paulo, but for Fluminense it was enough to secure top spot in Group D, with a 3-1 win over River Plate seeing them finish above the Argentines. They also finished runners-up in the Campeonato Carioca, but now attention turns to the Brazilian Serie A.

Player to watch: Abel Hernandez (Fluminense)
In a big blow for Fluminense, Fred has not travelled to Sao Paulo due to illness, meaning the club are missing their top scorer (the 37-year-old had scored 10 goals in 13 games so far this season).
But the visitors do have a more-than capable deputy, with Abel Hernandez expected to take Fred’s place. The former Palermo and Hull City striker signed for Fluminense in April and has hit the ground running, scoring four goals and recording one assist in eight games.
He is yet to start for Fluminense, but this weekend will provide an opportunity for Hernandez to show what he can do from the off.
