Jadon Sancho has defended his “desire” to play for Borussia Dortmund amid reports he could leave the club in January.

It has been suggested Dortmund are now willing to sell Sancho in the winter transfer window following a breakdown in the relationship between player and club.

The Independent claims Dortmund have been left furious by Sancho’s agents’ attempts to engineer an exit before next summer, while other reports suggest the teenager was late for a team meeting ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Barcelona.

Sancho came off the bench and scored Dortmund’s consolation goal as the visitors fell to a potentially costly 3-1 loss at Camp Nou.

The 19-year-old was criticised by a section of the Dortmund support on social media after the game, and he felt compelled to respond to one fan who questioned his commitment to the club.

“Think I showed heart and desire last night,” Sancho wrote in reply to the supporter on Twitter.

“Anyway we will try our best to get the 3 points on Saturday!”

Manchester United are said to be among the frontrunners to sign Sancho either in January or next summer, but the Red Devils may face competition from the likes of Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid and the winger’s former club Manchester City.
