Salernitana vs Juventus build-up & previous line-ups:

Back in Serie A for the first time this century, Salernitana’s return to the top flight has not been one to enjoy. I Granata are currently bottom of Serie A after 14 games having earned just eight points, below Cagliari on goal difference. Although Salernitana have won one more game than Cagliari (two to one), they have been let down by a league-high 10 defeats and just two draws. They are the lowest scorers in the league with the second-worst defence and go into this game winless in their past four, only ending a three-game losing streak at the weekend by drawing with Cagliari.

Juventus fans may feel like things aren’t going much better for them as they are fighting a losing battle to win back their Serie A title. After looking to have turned their season around following a poor start, the Bianconeri have encountered a slump once again, losing three of their past six Serie A matches (two wins, one draw). Last time out it was a 1-0 defeat to Atalanta that increased the gap between the two sides, and between Juventus and the top four, to eight points. It also followed a 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Chelsea in the Champions League which put the Blues above Juventus in their race to win Group H.

  • Salernitana (vs Cagliari): Belec; Veseli, Gagliolo, Ranieri; Coulibaly, Di Tacchio, Gyomber, Gondo; Obi, Djuric; Bonazzoli.
  • Juventus (vs Atalanta): Szczesny; Cuadrado, De Ligt, Bonucci, Sandro; Rabiot, Locatelli; Chiesa, McKennie; Dybala, Morata.

Salernitana vs Juventus: Five key stats

  • Salernitana are unbeaten int heir two home Serie A matches against Juventus, winning one and drawing one. However, they have lost both games on the road.
  • Juventus have lost their last two Serie A matches against newly-promoted teams, beaten by Benevento (last season) and Empoli (this season). They have never recorded three straight defeats against newly-promoted sides in Serie A.
  • Salernitana have lost five of their seven home matches in Serie A this season, winning once and drawing one. In their previous two seasons in Serie A combined, Salernitana lost just seven times in 37 home matches.
  • After defeats against Chelsea and Atalanta, Juventus could lose three games in a row in all competitions for the first time since March 2011 (three consecutive Serie A defeats to Lecce, Bologna and AC Milan).
  • Alvaro Morata has scored 8 goals in 17 Serie A games against newly-promoted sides with six coming in away matches. The Spaniard has also scored in each of his last three league matches on the road against newly-promoted sides.
