Tevez looking to take inspiration from Antonio Conte
Tevez’s first managerial role is not an easy one, a team he can build experience at with minor expectations and the ability to cruise with some safety. Having finished bottom of the Copa Liga Profesional, Rosario Central currently sit 23rd in the Argentine Primera Division Liga Profesional (sixth bottom) with just four points from their opening four matches, scoring once.
For a club that has won the league four times and was crowned Copa Argentina champions as recently as 2018, this is not good enough and Tevez’s appointment came amid reports of fan unrest due to his ties with super agent Christian Bragarnik.
However, Tevez will have his full focus set on the pitch to try and lift Rosario out of their current funk to begin a revival. And, being a managerial newbie, he’s going to draw inspiration from current Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte.
Speaking at his first press conference on Wednesday, Tevez said: “Yesterday at half-time of the game, I was already skipping, I felt like playing.
“But the truth is that when you stand on the other side of the line, the player dies. That’s one way of putting it. Then you start to think differently, much colder.
“Today I am a coach and I like this profession. I have a great reference who was Conte at Juventus. He was one of those who taught me the most as a player.
“So I’m going to try to get the team to play at least a little bit, or half the way his team played.”
Tevez could barely have asked for a harder start though, up against third-placed Gimnasia who are unbeaten after their four matches, winning two.
