Roma vs Genoa build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

A return to successful ways, after picking up just one point across their previous two league games, has seen Roma re-enter the race to finish in this season’s Champions League qualification spots. Paulo Fonseca’s men, though, come into this weekend’s game having mustered two wins from five played since February began. At the Stadio Olimpico, they’ve been near flawless having won nine of their opening 13 games — giving the Giallorossi the league’s second-best home record — with just one defeat suffered albeit they came last time out against AC Milan (1-2).

Regarding the visiting team, Genoa will be desperate to end a four-game winless streak. Consequently this run has left them mid-table and just seven points above the relegation zone.

However, they’re proving hard to beat, at least. Across their last nine Serie A outings Davide Ballardini’s men have tasted one defeat and that was against league leaders Inter Milan (3-0) on the road last month. In fact, so far this year Genoa have won just one of their five away games, as well as holding Atalanta — who sit one position ahead of Roma — to a goalless draw.

  • Roma (vs Fiorentina): López; Cristante, Kumbulla, Mancini; Peres, Veretout, Diawara, Spinazzola; Pellegrini, Mkhitaryan; Mayoral.
  • Genoa (vs Sampdoria): Perin; Radovanovic, Masiello, Criscito; Goldaniga, Strootman, Zajc, Badelj, Zappacosta; Shomurodov, Destro.

Marash Kumbulla is suspended for the hosts whilst Roger Ibañez, Riccardo Calafiori, Jordan Veretout, Nicolò Zaniolo and Edin Dzeko are injured. Nicolò Rovella and Luca Pellegrini are missing for the visitors. Meanwhile, there’s doubts over the availability of Alberto Paleari and Davide Biraschi.

Player to watch: Stephan El Shaarawy (Roma)

It will be interesting to see if Stephan El Shaarawy starts his first game for Roma since returning from Shanghai Shenhua this past winter. So far, he’s made three league appearances under Fonseca, all of which have been a cameo off the bench. Before leaving in the summer of 2019, he’d bag 34 goals across 109 league appearances for the capital club. And since making his Serie A debut in 2008 – for this weekend’s opponents Genoa – the 28-year-old Italian forward has only netted more times against Chievo (seven) and Udinese (five) than Il Grifone (four) in Italy’s top division.
