Inter Milan will look to climb above Atalanta into second when they travel to Roma in Serie A on Sunday night.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side dropped points away to Verona last time out, opening the door for Inter to create a three-point cushion for themselves in the runners-up position with a win.
Antonio Conte’s Nerazzurri are currently level on points with Atalanta but an inferior goal difference puts the Bergamo-based club above them in the table.
A draw against Roma would be enough for Inter to climb into second with four games remaining. And that result looks probable with the last four Serie A meetings between these two clubs finishing in a stalemate.
The capital club currently occupy fifth spot but AC Milan are hot on their heels in seventh with just four points separating Paulo Fonseca’s side from the Rossoneri.
The reverse fixture finished goalless at the San Siro, but will there be a breakthrough this time round with the Serie A finishing line fast approaching?

Roma & Inter Milan’s previous line-ups:
- Roma (vs Verona): Lopez; Mancini, Ibanez, Kolarov; Peres, Veretout, Diawara, Spinazzola; Mkhitaryan, Pellegrini, Dzeko.
- Inter Milan (vs SPAL): Handanovic; Bastoni, Ranocchia, Skriniar; Candreva, Gagliardini, Brozovic, Biraghi; Eriksen, Sanchez, Martinez.
Fonseca has a centre-back crisis to cope with at this present moment in time with Federico Fazio, Chris Smalling and Juan Jesus all sidelined.
As for Conte, he is likely to reintroduce Romelu Lukaku to his starting XI after the division’s third-top goalscorer sat out of the 4-0 win over SPAL.
Players to watch:
Roma: The Giallorossi are pushing hard to finish in the top six, and whether that objective is met or not, will largely rest on the shoulders of their prodigious goalscoring captain: Edin Dzeko. At 34, the former Man City striker continues to find the back of the net at an alarming rate, bringing up No. 15 for the season against Verona last time out. That match-winner in a 2-1 win appears all the more impressive when you look at Verona’s strong defensive record this season and the fact they kept free-scoring Atalanta to just one goal on Saturday. Inter Milan are famed for their three-at-the-back system under Conte, so Dzeko will need to bring his A-game if Roma are to breach Skriniar and Co.
Inter Milan: From one former Premier League striker to another. Inter Milan have the second-best goalscoring record in the division this season with 72 goals, more than Juventus, and Romelu Lukaku has been responsible for 20 of those. The former Man Utd marksman has missed the previous two games with an injury, but Conte is hopeful his No. 9 will be back from the Roma clash, and that will be devastating news for Roma’s injury-hit defence. With Inter looking to put a little bit of pressure on Juventus in the next five games, Lukaku will be needed in that final stretch.
