Roma and Feyenoord are set to battle for the inaugural UEFA Conference League when they meet at Air Albania Stadium on Wednesday evening (20:00 UK time).

Jose Mourinho’s men overcame Leicester City in the previous round and will be competing for their first-ever major European title. Their boss will be looking to add this championship to his previous Champions League and Europa League successes.

As for Feyenoord, who overcame Marseille, they are seeking to become the first side to win the European Cup, UEFA Cup and Conference League titles. Arne Slot could also become the 13th different Dutch manager to claim European silverware.

Roma team news

Heading into this final Mourinho has a near fully available squad to choose from. He could, though, be without Henrikh Mkhitaryan who is nursing an injury. But certain to start will be Tammy Abraham, the 24-year-old marksman has netted more than 20 goals in all competitions in his first campaign for Roma, including nine in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Last summer the former Chelsea boss spoke with the Cobham academy graduate. “‘Would you rather stay in rainy England or come to the sun in Rome?'” We both laughed but he then said, ‘No, seriously.’ I’ve always looked at him as a father figure, and he told me that he believes it’s the best place for me right now; to come and make a mark on Italian football, get your name around the world – not just in England. For me, that was enough.”

Roma predicted XI: Patricio; Mancini, Smalling, Ibanez; Karsdorp, Cristante, Oliveira, Zalewski; Zaniolo, Pellegrini; Abraham.

Feyenoord team news

The Rotterdammers are set to be at near full strength on Wednesday evening. Gernot Trauner and Tyrell Malacia should both return to bolster the Eredivisie sides defence while Arsenal loanee Reiss Nelson is in contention to be part of Slot’s attack. First choice goalkeeper Justin Bijlow is doubtful but Conference League top scorer Cyriel Dessers will once lead Feyenoord’s forward line. “Who would have thought at the beginning of the season that we’d reach a European final?”

Desserts joined the club on loan from Genk in his native Belgium in August and has bagged ten goals since the start of the group stage. “It’s a fantastic feeling. To get into double figures as a striker is something you work towards in pre-season,” he added. “When you can do that in a European competition, that’s very special. I realise it puts me in a special list of players for this season, [not just] at the European level but also for the club. At Feyenoord, I am moving up the list, which is very rewarding.”

Feyenoord predicted XI: Marciano; Geertruida, Trauner, Senesi, Malacia; Kökçü, Aursnes; Nelson, Til, Sinisterra; Dessers.

Scoreline prediction: Roma 2-1 Feyenoord
