Rochdale vs Newcastle: FA Cup preview, predictions, possible XIs & live stream

Rochdale welcome Newcastle United to Spotland in what has the potential to be a giant-killing in the FA Cup third round this weekend.
The hosts currently sit 18th in League One, just four points above the relegation zone, while Newcastle have lost four of their last five Premier League games despite a gradual improvement under Steve Bruce.
Rochdale will be keen to kickstart a run of form that could see them edge away from the bottom three in the third tier, so Newcastle must be wary of the threat posed by Brian Barry-Murphy’s side.

Ones to watch
Rochdale: Ian Henderson
Henderson looks to be Rochdale’s biggest threat going into this one. The striker scored his 11th goal of the season in Wednesday’s victory over Accrington Stanley. It ended a run of five games without a goal for the 34-year-old who had also missed a handful of games in December.
He has scored 10 FA Cup goals in total for Rochdale, including six in the 2017/18 season and will be hoping to get off the mark for the current campaign this weekend.
Key stat: Ian Henderson has scored 11 goals for Rochdale across all competitions this season, more than any other player.
Newcastle: Andy Carroll
Bruce may look to deploy the aerial threat of Carroll to contend with Rochdale’s physicality. The striker is yet to score since returning to Newcastle but he has been a creative presence in the Magpies’ attack. Perhaps a partnership with Dwight Gayle is on the cards for this one.
Key stat: Carroll has provided three assists in the Premier League this season, as many as he did in his previous four Premier League seasons combined.

Squawka prediction
While there is potential for a shock result here, Newcastle should have enough quality to see off a Rochdale side that will try to make it an edgy, physical contest.
