Robert Lewandowski tells Bayern Munich to sign Man City’s assist king: “That’s a super player”
Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has urged the Bavarian club to pursue Manchester City winger Leroy Sane.
The German international has been linked with a move to the Allianz Arena after falling down the Man City pecking order, starting just nine Premier League games in 2019.
Could Sane leave City? Five key things to know…
- Despite scoring 16 goals and registering 14 assists across all competitions in 2018/19, Sane fell out of favour towards the end of the campaign.
- The 23-year-old started just nine league games following the turn of the year.
- As such, Bayern Munich have emerged as hot favourites to secure his signature should he leave the North West.
- With Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery set to leave the club next month, Bayern will be in the market for wingers.
- Lewandowski has now endorsed the signing of Sane to the Bundesliga champions’ hierarchy.

Sane was directly involved in 30 goals across all competitions throughout the season, but endured a discouraging second half of the campaign as he found himself on the bench nine times in the Premier League in 2019, failing to make the pitch on five occasions.
It will therefore come as no surprise to see the former Schalke 04 player linked with a return to his homeland, and with Bayern set for a summer of monumental change, Sane could find his way to Bavaria.
Lewandowski will be keen to ensure he is still provided elite-level service after Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben bowed out with a seventh consecutive Bundesliga title last Saturday, and he has backed Sane to fill the void.
“That’s a super player with great qualities and great potential,” said Lewandowski.
“I’ve already seen many times how good he is. That’s a player who can immediately take us higher, who improves the team.”

Who could Bayern sign this summer?
With question marks hanging over the head of current coach Niko Kovac, who could see his tenure cut short after just one season even if he scoops a domestic double, Bayern are set for an interesting summer.
The club have already recruited two World Cup winners, with the French pairing of Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez signing earlier in the season from Stuttgart and Atletico Madrid respectively.
But the Bayern board will be keen to add significant firepower further up the pitch. Atleti’s midfield enforcer Rodri has been strongly linked to Man City, but reports suggest Bayern are hoping Hernandez can convince his former teammate to join him in Bavaria.
RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner has also been consistently linked with a move to the German giants since bursting onto the scene, and Lewandowski has now fanned the flames by suggesting there is still much more transfer activity to come.
He added: “The transfer window hasn’t even opened yet and we already have two players, I know there’s still more to come.
“That’s certain. Bayern has not yet said the final word with respect to transfers.”
