Players to watch:

  • Red Bull Salzburg: Another transfer window, another big striker gone, with Salzburg recently bidding farewell to Patson Daka who left for Leicester City. But, fear not, as they have another promising young centre-forward in the form of Karim Adeyemi. The German U21 international joined Salzburg’s youth set up in 2018 and, after a year on loan in Austria’s second tier, became a bigger part of the side. Last season, Adeyemi often joined Daka in attack for Salzburg, whether from the start or as a substitute (18 of his 29 league appearances came from the bench). In those 29 appearances, totalling 1,079 minutes, Adeyemi scored seven goals and set up a further eight including a hat-trick of assists in an 8-2 win over SKN St. Polten. Adeyemi has also scored in the Champions League for Salzburg and will be hoping to use pre-season to get the goals in early.
  • Monaco: With Kevin Volland having represented Germany at Euro 2020, this pre-season friendly will be a chance for Pietro Pellegri to shine ahead of the new campaign. The Italian joined Monaco from Genoa in January 2018 for £22m, a deal which had brought a lot of interest due to his promise and record as the joint-youngest ever Serie A player aged 15 years and 280 days, while also scoring three goals in nine top-flight appearances. However, Pellegri has suffered heavily with injuries, restricting him to just 22 league games across the three-and-a-half years in France, totalling 317 minutes. A large number of those minutes came last season, with Pellegri featuring 16 times in Ligue 1 and he scored against eventual champions Lille, albeit in a 2-1 defeat.
