Barcelona must try and keep their faint La Liga title hopes alive when they travel to Real Valladolid on Saturday at 6:30 PM.
The Blaugrana beat city rivals Espanyol 1-0 last time out (a result which relegated Periquitos) to end a run of two consecutive draws. However, Real Madrid sit a point ahead with a game in hand and remain firmly in control of the title race with just three games remaining.
Although they lost 2-1 against Valencia last time out, Saturday’s opponents Valladolid have been in decent form since returning to action having gone four matches unbeaten prior to that defeat to Los Che.
As a result, Sergio González’s men sit 14th in the table on 39 points, meaning they can now start planning for a third straight season in the Spanish top-flight.
Will Barcelona stroll past a safe Valladolid or will the hosts hand Quique Setien another huge title blow?

Real Valladolid & Barcelona’s confirmed line-ups and live stats:
Real Valladolid & Barcelona’s previous line-ups:
- Real Valladolid (vs Valencia): Masip; Antonito, Kiko, Fernandez, Nacho; Perez, Fede; Garcia, Ben Arfa, Rubio; Unal.
- Barcelona (vs Espanyol): Ter Stegen; Semedo, Pique, Lenglet, Alba; Roberto, Busquets, Rakitic; Messi, Suarez, Griezmann.
As their injury problems mount up, Valladolid will be without a number of players for the visit of Barcelona, including Jose Antonio Caro, Michel Javaloyas, Miguel de la Fuente, Matheus Fernandes and Pedro Porro. Mohammed Salisu is a fitness doubt.
Ansu Fati is suspended after picking up a red card against Espanyol while French forward Ousmane Dembele is still out injured. Samuel Umtiti, Junior Firpo and Frenkie de Jong are doubts with knee, hip and calf injuries respectively.
Player to watch:
At 33 years old, he may be quickly moving into the twilight of his career, but Luis Suarez still remains a hugely important member of this Barcelona squad.
Suarez has contributed 19% (15) of Barca’s 79 La Liga goals so far this season — only Lionel Messi (28%, 22 goals) has managed more for the club — and although that pace has gone, the Uruguayan still remains a pest for defenders thanks to his work ethic and sheer physicality. After a tough return to action, the former Liverpool man has bagged four goals in his last four La Liga games.
The Blaugrana’s title hopes are fading this season but if they’re to hang onto the coattails of Real Madrid, they’ll need to rely on their “siege weapon” in the final three games of the campaign. Messi can’t do it all alone, after all.
