Real Sociedad vs Man Utd build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:
With the game being moved to Italy there is no home advantage for Real Sociedad, but a relocation could do the Basque side well. The excellent start to the season has long gone and Sociedad have been struggling domestically, slowly falling away from the race for the top four.
Sociedad have won just four of their past 19 games across all competitions, a run which stretches back to the end of the Europa League group stage, and includes a nine-match winless streak. However, they may be buoyed by their past two results, picking up consecutive wins for the first time since November, beating Cadiz and Getafe.
Unlike Sociedad, Man Utd don’t enter this game on the back of a win, rather a disappointing draw against West Bromwich Albion as part of a wider underwhelming run. The Red Devils have won just two of their past six games across all competitions, one coming after extra-time against West Ham United in the FA Cup and the other that 9-0 victory over Southampton.
That form has seen Man Utd slip away from Premier League leaders Manchester City and back among the pack fighting for a spot in the top four, now just four points clear of fifth-placed West Ham. Nevertheless, Man Utd are still likely to look to the Europa League for success, both as a route to the Champions League and redemption for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after their semi-final disappointment last season.
- Real Sociedad (vs Getafe): Remiro; Zaldua, Zubeldia, Elustondo, Monreal; Illarramendi; Januzaj, Merino, Silva, Oyarzabal; Isak.
- Man Utd (vs West Brom): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Rashford, Fernandes, Martial; Cavani*.
Sociedad remain without Luca Sangalli, Miguel Angel Moya and Carlos Fernandez. Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek have been ruled out by Solskjaer, joining Paul Pogba and Phil Jones on the sidelines. Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial are both doubt.

Players to watch:
Real Sociedad: The La Liga side have a few ex-Premier League stars among their ranks that will love to get one over Man Utd. But one who will line up with love, and nothing to prove, is Adnan Januzaj. The Belgian spent six years at Man Utd, joining their academy, and was tipped to achieve great things for the club (with perhaps a bit too much pressure placed on his young shoulders).
Januzaj didn’t live up to the high expectations and was allowed to leave for Real Sociedad in 2017, making the Spanish club his new home. Although he has been and out of the side this season, Januzaj goes into this game as a starter, and will be looking to continue having fun in the Europa League. This season, only Nicolas Pepe (36) has attempted more take-ons in the in the opposition half that Januzaj (35) in the Europa League.
And on having nothing to prove, Januzaj recently told ESPN: “I don’t have to prove to anyone how good I am, I just have to believe in myself, get my games and be happy. I’m really happy to go back there, the club I love.
“Once I’m on the pitch, there’s going to be no friends because obviously I’m playing for another club now and also I want to win the game.”
Man Utd: We all know how good Bruno Fernandes is and there’s no understating his importance for Man Utd. But with Cavani injured and Martial a doubt, they will be relying on him even more than normal to prove the goods in Italy. The Portuguese international made the Europa League his own last season, for both Sporting CP and Man Utd, finishing top of the scoring charts (eight goals) and third for assists (four), being directly involved in more goals than any other player.
It was Fernandes who rescued Man Utd at the weekend, scoring a brilliant volley to equalise against West Brom, and taking more shots than any of his teammates. He was less creative, but Man Utd may need Fernandes the scorer more than the assister this week.
