Ones to watch

Real Sociedad: Martin Ødegaard

Martin Ødegaard was at the heart of Real Sociedad sensationally eliminating his parent club from this season’s competition at the quarter-final stage. He missed their win against regional rivals Athletic Bilbao over the weekend with a niggly injury, but is expected to feature as La Real chase a first Copa del Rey final appearance since 1988.

Key stat: Martin Ødegaard has been directly involved in five goals (scored two and created three) across his previous three Copa del Rey matches.

Mirandés: Martín Merquelanz

Martín Merquelanz really turned on the style against Villarreal last time out by registering three assists and scoring another in Mirandés’ incredible 4-2 win. This semi-final meeting will be special for the 24-year-old winger given he joined his present side from boyhood club Real Sociedad.

Key stat: Martín Merquelanz has created four goals across five Copa del Rey appearances, more than any other Mirandés player.

Squawka prediction

No fewer than 24 places separate Real Sociedad and Mirandés but as the second division side have shown, they are not afraid of who is put in front of them. La Real, though, should fancy themselves to get the job done ahead of the second leg.

Scoreline prediction: Real Sociedad 2-0 Mirandés
