Real Sociedad will look to keep their Europa League hopes alive when they host Granada on Friday evening (6:30pm).
La Real are currently seventh in La Liga with four games remaining, two points behind Getafe who occupy the final Europa League spot. However, Getafe have already played this week, so a win for Real Sociedad would see them jump into sixth in search for European football for the first time since 2017/18.
Standing in their way on Friday are 10th-placed Granada, who may also harbour some hope of Europa League football (albeit slim hope). Diego Martinez’s side are four points behind Real Sociedad and six behind Getafe but know only a win will keep their dream going for another week.
However, history in this fixture is on Real Sociedad’s side with the hosts winning their past five league games against Granada and losing just one of the previous eight at home.

Real Sociedad & Granada’s previous line-ups:
- Real Sociedad (vs Levante): Moya; Gorosabel, Elustondo, Le Normand, Munoz; Merino, Zubimendi; Portu, Odegaard, Oyarzabal; Isak.
- Granada (vs Valencia): Silva; Diaz, Duarte, Sanchez; Foulquier, Brice, Herrera, Neva; Fernandez, Machis; Soldado.
Neither side has any fresh injury problems going into Friday’s match, but both managers could still be tempted to slightly rotate.
Player to watch: Roberto Soldado (Granada)
A summer arrival from Fenerbahce, the 35-year-old has started 27 of Granada’s 34 league games so far this season, with a further three substitute appearances. In that time, the Spaniard has been directly involved in nine goals, scoring five and recording four assists. Although this will be nowhere near the level of other team’s starting strikers in the league, Soldado’s game allows his other attacking teammates to thrive, playing smart as his career winds down.
Soldado’s five goals is only bettered by Carlos Fernandez (eight) and Darwin Marchis (six) among his Granada teammates, while only Victor Diaz (five) has recorded more assists for the club.
Friday also presents a good opportunity for Soldado to add to his impressive record against Real Sociedad in La Liga, scoring five goals in five games. Can the Spanish veteran score a sixth and help Granada’s improbable European dream continue?
Scoreline prediction: Real Sociedad 1-1 Granada
Muhammad Butt: “La Real are pants. They finally picked up their first win since the restart by beating Espanyol, but Granada are made of sterner stuff than Rufete’s relegation-doomed side and Alexander Isak can’t backheel crosses in every week.”
