Real Madrid vs FC Sheriff build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:
Real Madrid head into this match unbeaten in eight games across all competitions so far this season. What’s more, the La Liga leaders have already been severely tested in the Champions League, only beating Serie A champions Inter Milan thanks to an 89th-minute Rodrygo goal. Though they’ve won nine of the last 10 Moldovan league titles, Sheriff are obviously massive underdogs in the Spanish capital and Carlo Ancelotti will be expecting a more comfortable affair than the one in Milan recently. That said, Real Madrid would do well to take heed of their 2-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in their opening Champions League group match.
- Real Madrid (vs Villarreal): Courtois; Valverde, Militao, Alaba, Nacho; Asensio, Casemiro, Modric; Rodrygo, Benzema, Vinicius Jr.
- Sheriff (vs Shakhtar Donetsk)*: Athanasiadis; Fernando, Arboleda, Dulanto, Cristiano; Kolovos, Addo, Thill; Traore, Yakhshiboev, Castaneda.
Real Madrid still have a long list of absentees, with Dani Carvajal, Dani Ceballos, Gareth Bale and Marcelo all out, while Ferland Mendy and Toni Kroos are both doubts. Lovro Bizjak is Sheriff’s only injury concern.
*Sheriff’s previous domestic line-up is unavailable.

Player to watch: Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)
Just as he did last season, Karim Benzema is very much carrying the attacking torch for Real Madrid. In just seven La Liga appearances, the French striker already has eight goals and seven assists, leaving him three and five clear of his nearest teammates, respectively. He was kept at bay during Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Inter Milan in their first Champions League group stage clash, failing to register a single shot on target. But Los Blancos will be fully expected to exert their dominance against Sheriff, and Benzema will undoubtedly be eyeing up a couple of goals.
