Currently in control of the La Liga title race, Real Madrid host Real Mallorca in Wednesday’s 9pm kick-off.

Los Blancos replaced Barcelona at the top of the table at the weekend by Real Sociedad 2-1 win over to take advantage of the Blaugrana dropping points at Sevilla. With the two sides level on points, Real Madrid hold top spot due to their better head-to-head record. But things are still very tight.

In order to keep their grip on first place, Real Madrid know they need to at least match Barcelona’s results in the final eight games of the season, and they should be confident of a win on Wednesday.

Real Mallorca travel to the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium (Madrid’s temporary home while the Bernabeu undergoes rennovation) in the relegation zone and winless in their three matches since La Liga’s return, including two defeats. However, Mallorca are one of just three teams to beat Real Madrid in La Liga this season, earning a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture.

Can Real Madrid get revenge and stay top, or will Mallorca complete the double to keep their safety hopes alive?

Real Madrid & Real Mallorca’s confirmed line-ups and live stats:

Real Madrid & Real Mallorca’s previous line-ups:

Real Madrid (vs Real Sociedad): Courtois; Carvajal, Varane, Ramos*, Marcelo; Valverde, Casemiro, Kroos; Rodriguez, Benzema, Vinicius Jr.

Real Mallorca (vs Leganes): Reina; Pozo, Valjent, Sedlar, Gamez; Baba; Kubo, Rodriguez, Sevilla, Hernandez; Budimir.

Sergio Ramos is a doubt for Real Madrid after picking up a knee injury in the win over Sociedad, and was absent from training on Monday. Real Mallorca have no fresh concerns.

Players to watch:

Real Madrid: There has been a lot of attention on Eden Hazard during his first season at Real Madrid, a season in which things weren’t initially going to plan for the Belgian. He featured in just 17 of Real Madrid’s 39 game prior to the suspension of football, first suffering a hamstring in pre-season before two separate ankle injuries. And when he was on the pitch, Hazard wasn’t living up to expectations, scoring just once and recording two assists across all competitions. However, since Spanish football returned at the start of June, Hazard has been showing glimpses of why Real Madrid were so keen to lure him away from Chelsea. The Belgian has recorded two assists in his two appearances so far, setting up Karim Benzema’s goal against Valencia and Sergio Ramos’ vs Eibar. Hazard sat out of the win against Real Sociedad at the weekend so should be fresh to cause Mallorca’s defence real problems on Wednesday.

Real Mallorca: There may be one Mallorca player trying harder than most when they visit Madrid on Wednesday: Takefusa Kubo. The highly-rated Japanese teenager joined Real Madrid from FC Tokyo last summer and was almost immediately sent on loan to Mallorca for the season. Kubo has missed just two of Mallorca’s games since joining, starting 16 of his 27 appearances so far, and has impressed on loan. The 18-year-old has scored three goals and recorded two assists, with only three Mallorca players being directly involved in more goals. But where Fubo has thrived most has been when in control of the ball, taking opponents on, averaging 2.44 completed dribbles per 90 minutes. It may be too much to ask for Kubo to inspire a shock, but the Japanese winger can certainly make an impression to set up a role at Real Madrid next season – or a loan spell higher up the table.

Scoreline prediction: Real Madrid 4-0 Real Mallorca
