Real Madrid and PSG resume their Champions League battle when they meet for the second leg of their last-16 tie on Wednesday night (8pm kick-off, UK time).

The pre-match narrative from the first leg in Paris was dominated by Kylian Mbappe and his perennial links to the Bernabeu, and the post-match discussion followed a similar pattern as the French forward bagged the goal that has given Mauricio Pochettino’s men a 1-0 lead heading into this Spanish capital showdown.

Real Madrid team news vs PSG: Suspension worries for Real

Carlo Ancelotti has a job on his hands to put out a side capable of overturning a deficit and swinging this contest back in Real’s favour, but that task has been made all the more difficult as the Italian coach will be without Casemiro and Ferland Mendy, who are both suspended after picking up their third bookings of the Champions League season in the first leg.

Toni Kroos meanwhile is nursing a hamstring injury so is unlikely to be available for selection, but Ancelotti can once again call upon the services of Federico Valverde, who has recovered from a bout of the flu.

Predicted Real Madrid XI vs PSG:

  • Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Nacho, Alaba; Camavinga, Valverde, Modric; Rodrygo, Benzema, Vinicius Jr. (4-3-3)

PSG team news vs Real Madrid: Mbappe a doubt?

Kylian Mbappe is an injury doubt for the clash on Wednesday after sustaining an agitation in his foot following a 50-50 challenge in training. The initial suggestion is that the 23-year-old hasn’t endured any serious damage that could potentially rule him out long-term, but serious doubts have surfaced regarding his potential involvement in Madrid later this week.

“Kylian Mbappe received a shock on his left foot during training today,” the club said. “He was treated this afternoon.

“The clinical examination is reassuring and a new assessment will be made in 24 hours.”

Were Mbappe to sit this one out, then he would join Sergio Ramos on the sidelines, with the former Real Madrid centre-back out of action with a calf issue, while Leandro Paredes and Ander Herrera are both doubtful.

Predicted PSG XI vs Real Madrid:

  • Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Mendes; Pereira, Gueye, Verratti; Messi, Di Maria, Neymar. (4-3-3)
