Real Madrid vs Man City predicted XIs: Team news as Florentino Perez teases Kylian Mbappe transfer rumours

Real Madrid and Manchester City converge on the Bernabeu for the second leg of their epic Champions League semi-final clash on Wednesday (8pm kick-off, UK time).
It was a barnstormer last week as both City and Real traded blows in a flurry of leather at the Etihad, with their first-leg encounter finishing 4-3 in favour of Pep Guardiola’s men. The Citizens travel to Madrid looking to hold out and reach consecutive Champions League finals, but Carlo Ancelotti’s men have momentum in their favour after clinching La Liga at the weekend, and having done so with a heavily-rotated side. This should be another Champions League classic.

Real Madrid team news vs Man City: Alaba doubtful
- Ins: Eder Militao, Nacho Fernandez
- Outs: Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale and Luka Jovic
- Doubts: David Alaba
Eder Militao and Nacho Fernandez missed the weekend’s La Liga title procession against Espanyol due to domestic suspensions, but they both return here. Casemiro meanwhile came back to feature on the bench last week, and was given a 60-minute run-out against Espanyol at centre-back, so he could well come into the midfield here. However, David Alaba is a doubt after coming off injured at half-time at the Etihad, and he missed the weekend’s 4-0 La Liga triumph, joining Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale and Luka Jovic on the sidelines.
In other news, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez recently dropped a major transfer hint about Kylian Mbappe’s future following the club’s La Liga title win at the weekend.
When asked about the possibility of Mbappe joining them from PSG this summer, Perez told Movistar: “I hadn’t thought about it [Mbappe] but now that you mention it, it might be true and so on.”
He added: “When we plan next year’s squad, we’ll see.”

Man City team news vs Real Madrid: Cancelo returns
- Ins: Joao Cancelo
- Outs: Kyle Walker
- Doubts: John Stones, Nathan Ake
Joao Cancelo returns from suspension in a huge defensive boost to Guardiola’s side after John Stones had a difficult evening last week playing out of position against Vinicius Junior. The England defender is actually a doubt for this tie, alongside Nathan Ake, who is currently nursing a knock. Kyle Walker is Guardiola’s only confirmed absentee with an ankle issue that could keep him out of action for the rest of the campaign.
