Real Madrid can move a step closer to the La Liga title with a win over Alaves on Friday night (9:00pm).
Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Espanyol on Wednesday cut the gap between the top two to just a point, but Los Blancos can extend that to four once again should they come out on top against Alaves.
Zinedine Zidane’s men have been excellent since La Liga returned, winning all seven of their games which, combined with a handful of Barcelona slip-ups, has allowed them to take control of the title race. Standing in their way of an eighth consecutive victory are 16th-placed Alaves, who will be looking to stay away from the relegation zone. Currently, they are six points ahead of Mallorca in 18th.
Almost the absolute opposite of Real Madrid, Alaves have lost six of their seven games, form which has seen them slip closer to the drop having initially appeared safe, and Asier Garitano replaced by Juan Muniz.

Player to watch: Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)
Over the years, Real Madrid have flashed their cash to build an excellent squad capable of dominating Europe, breaking the transfer record twice for Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale while also spending £100m on Eden Hazard. But for all those big-money moves, their best bit of business may have been signing Karim Benzema.
On July 9, 2009, 11 years and one day before Los Blancos face Alaves, Real Madrid signed 21-year-old French striker Benzema from Lyon. He didn’t come cheap, but his £30m price tag pales in comparison to the fees they paid for Ronaldo and Kaka that same summer. Although the Frenchman was overshadowed by his attacking partner during the Portuguese’s spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, Benzema certainly played a key role in Real Madrid‘s successes, scoring 244 goals in 508 games.

And as Real Madrid chase just their third league title in 12 years, Benzema has proven his worth once more. The Frenchman has scored 17 goals in La Liga this season, more than any other Real Madrid player and bettered only by Lionel Messi across the rest of the division. Benzema also leads the way at Madrid for assists, recording seven so far, with only five players in La Liga managing more.
Since La Liga returned in June, Benzema has been directly involved in four goals, scoring three and recording one assist, but the Frenchman’s selflessness is almost as important, allowing other teammates to get the glory for his hard work.
Scoreline prediction: Real Madrid 3-0 Alaves
Muhammad Butt: ‘Los Blancos are unstoppable right now. Seven wins out of seven and now they face Alavés who have lost five straight since their shock win over Real Sociedad. Even without a suspended Sergio Ramos, this will be a procession.’
