High-flying Real Betis play host to Valencia in La Liga on Wednesday (7pm kick-off, UK time), looking to knock on the top-four door.

The Andalusians have been in formidable form under former Man City and West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini, with Los Verdiblancos currently fifth in La Liga and just three points off the summit. Valencia meanwhile are languishing in mid table and winless in their their last 10 visits to Andalusia.

Real Betis vs Valencia build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

After denting his reputation in the Premier League with a forgetful spell at West Ham, Pellegrini has returned to more familiar pastures and resurrected his career, guiding Betis to sixth last season, securing Europa League football as a result, and consolidating fifth this term, looking to ask questions of the top four.

Valencia continue to be club in a period of stasis under their polarising ownership, with the days of successive fourth-placed finishes between 2018 and 2019 now but a faint memory. Summer appointment Jose Bordalas has made a somewhat positive start to the campaign given the circumstances, with the club just below mid table.

  • Real Betis (vs Rayo Vallecano): Bravo; Bellerin, Bartra, Gonzalez*, Moreno; Rodriguez, Canales, Rodri, Fekir, Juanmi; Jose.
  • Valencia (vs Mallorca): Cillessen; Foulquier, Gabriel, Diakhaby, Gaya; Costa, Wass, Racic, Duro; Gomez, Guedes.

Nabil Fekir will need to be careful as Betis’ creative fulcrum is just one booking away from suspension, which he will be desperate to avoid here as Pellegrini’s side travel to the Spanish champions, Atletico Madrid, at the weekend. Edgar Gonzalez meanwhile is banned for the hosts for one match for collecting five yellows. Omar Alderete could start here for Valencia after returning from his own suspension to play in the second half vs Mallorca.

Hector Bellerin finding form in Seville

Hector Bellerin is enjoying life on loan at Real Betis after slipping down the pecking order at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, securing a season-long loan deal in Seville on deadline day. He has already become an integral component of Pellegrini’s system as a attack-minded right-back.

The 26-year-old has played the full 90 minutes in six of the seven La Liga games he has been available for as he looks to finally put behind his wretched form with injuries and build up some consistency back in his homeland, hoping to rediscover the levels that once had him linked to boyhood club Barcelona a few years back.

Speaking about his time at the Estadio Benito Villamarin so far, Bellerin has intimated that he does not want to return to Arsenal upon the expiration of his loan deal with Betis, instead suggesting he would be open to completing a permanent transfer next summer.

Asked where he think he will be next summer, Bellerin replied earlier this month: “I don’t know, but I’ve always said if I didn’t want to be here next season, I wouldn’t have come from the beginning.

“There are many things to be decided but what I want to do is enjoy this season that I am here. And what has to happen will happen.”
