RB Leipzig vs Cologne build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

Third-placed Leipzig will be eyeing a victory as they try to keep pace with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich at the top of the table, while the 15th-placed visitors need points to move away from the relegation zone.

Leipzig are enjoying a purple patch, having carried the momentum from their dramatic 3-2 Champions League win over Manchester United last week into the Bundesliga.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side have beaten Werder Bremen 2-0 and Hoffenheim 1-0 since qualifying for the last-16 of the Champions League and will be confident of continuing that run at home to Cologne.

Cologne will know they face a tough test in east Germany, having suffered a 4-0 home thrashing at the hands of league leaders Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday.

  • RB Leipzig (vs Hoffenheim): Gulasci; Konate, Upamecano, Orban; Mukiele, Sabitzer, Kampl, Tasende; Forsberg, Olmo; Poulsen.
  • Cologne (vs Bayer Leverkusen): T. Horn; Cestic, Bornauw, J. Horn; Skhiri; Wolf, Jakobs, Ozcan, Rexhbecaj; Thielmann, Andersson.

Nagelsmann will be without Benjamin Henrichs, Lukas Klostermann and Konrad Laimer, who all have knee injuries and Christopher Nkunku, who has an ankle issue.

Justin Kleivert is a doubt after picking up a calf injury against Hoffenheim, but Tyler Adams and Alexander Sorloth are pushing for starts.

Cologne welcome back Ondrej Duda, who was suspended for the 4-0 defeat by Leverkusen, while captain Jonas Hector could start after coming off the bench in midweek following injury.

Rafael Czichos (groin) and Florian Kainz (knee) are unavailable for the away side.

Players to watch:

RB Leipzig: Leipzig’s fantastic recent form owes a lot to Marcel Sabitzer. The all-action midfielder was superb against Manchester United and has continued to lead the way in the following two Bundesliga games, scoring against Werder Bremen and assisting Youssef Poulsen’s goal against Hoffenheim. The 26-year-old Austrian is one of the few players who tends to be immune to Nagelsmann’s rotation policy and that’s because of his consistency and leadership qualities.

Cologne: The return of Ondrej Duda is an important one for Cologne. The Slovakian playmaker has two goals and two assists this season, meaning he has been involved in more goals than any of his teammates so far this term, despite playing as a striker in his last two games. Before the thrashing by Leverkusen, Cologne were in strong form, having beaten Bayern Munich 2-1 and Mainz 1-0 away from home. With Duda back, they will be hoping to extend their unbeaten league away record to five games.
