Liverpool vs Man City

Published: 12:30, 10 November 2019

Liverpool host rivals Man City at Anfield on Sunday afternoon in what is being billed as a potential Premier League title decider.

Jurgen Klopp’s men boast a six-point lead over their rivals, who have dropped to fourth place in the table after results elsewhere, and victory will represent a major psychological boost ahead of the busy festive period.

Likewise, if Pep Guardiola’s side become the first top-flight team to beat the Reds on home turf since April 2017 then they will believe that the race for the trophy is there to be won.

With so little between the two sets of players, and the destination of the prized piece of silverware set to be decided on minuscule margins, we’ve ranked them from worst to best.

But we’re only taking this season into account – so forget anything further back than the start of the 2019/20 campaign. Are Ballon d’or contenders Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk ahead of the likes of Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne?

Is Trent Alexander-Arnold enjoying a better campaign than Andy Robertson? Is Alisson, Ederson – or Kyle Walker – top of the goalkeeper pecking order as things stand?

Have Jordan Henderson’s recent performances in the centre of the park edged him ahead of Fernandinho – or is the Liverpool skipper now also playing second fiddle to Fabinho?

Don’t forget the fringe players either – where does Divock Origi stack up against his rivals and teammates? And will a lack of minutes for Phil Foden see the midfielder placed towards the bottom of the pile?

Watch the video at the top of the article to hear Lizzi Doyle and Steven McInerney rank the Liverpool and Man City squads in full.
