It’s the final round of qualifying for the 2023 French Open, with both Radu Albot and Camilo Ugo Carabelli hoping to reach the main draw. Albot isn’t a stranger to the main draw of the French Open, reaching it on six occasions but last year he was dumped out in the second round of qualifying. When in the main draw, Albot doesn’t get too far, with a second-round (proper) exit his best performance, achieved three times.

In qualifying for 2023, Albot had an interesting first match against Vit Kopriva, winning a tight first set before a bagel in the second, to set up a second-round clash with Ryan Peniston. And Albot had to come from a set down against the Brit to eventual win 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Carabelli, meanwhile, made his Grand Slam debut at the 2022 French Open and beat Aslan Karatsev in the first round with a fifth-set 10 points tiebreak. However, he would bow out in the second round in straight sets, beaten by Felix Auger-Aliassime. Last year was a good one for Carabelli as he broke into the top 100, rising as high as 96th in August, though he has now dropped all the way back down to 152nd.

Back in qualifying for the French Open, Carabelli hasn’t had an easy run in making it to the final round, taken to three sets by both of his opponents. In the first round it was Kaichi Uchida, while in the second round Sascha Gueymard Wayenburg battled only to lose 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

Prediction: Albot in three sets
