PSV vs Feyenoord build-up & previous line-ups:

In their quest to win a 24th Dutch championship — and first since 2018 — the club from Eindhoven led by Roger Schmidt have started this season on a strong footing. PSV head into matchday five as the only Eredivisie team with a 100% record having won each of their opening fixtures. De Boeren picked off Heracles, Cambuur and Groningen before the recent international break. AZ were expected to put up a stiff challenge last weekend but they were brushed aside. Schmidt’s men left Alkmaar with a resounding 0-3 victory. This weekend sees PSV host Feyenoord for the 66th time in Dutch football’s top division; across those previous occasions they’ve claimed 33 wins, with the last of their 20 losses coming in September 2016.

Very few members of that victorious Feyenoord side remain at the club. Of the 11 who started only Jens Toornstra can be called upon this weekend. Justin Bijlow, who started on the bench, should defend the Rotterdammers goal when both teams square off. An ever-present this season he’s conceded three goals and kept two clean sheets, the same as PSV but Feyenoord have played a game fewer. However even with a game in hand Arne Slot’s side are already playing on the backfoot. An opening weekend 0-4 success at Willem was swiftly followed by them running 2-0 winners against Go Ahead Eagles but last time out the De Kuip-based club suffered a humbling 3-1 loss to Utrecht on the road.

  • PSV (vs Real Sociedad): Drommel; Mwene, Ramalho, Obispo, Max; Boscagli, Van Ginkel; Madueke, Götze, Gakpo; Zahavi.
  • Feyenoord (vs Maccabi Haifa): Bijlow; Pedersen, Trauner, Senesi, Malacia; Kökcü, Aursnes; Toornstra, Til, Sinisterra; Linssen.

Player to watch: Eran Zahavi (PSV)

For some observers Eran Zahavi was the favourite to be crowned as this season’s leading Eredivisie scorer. The 34-year-old PSV marksman hasn’t been his electrifying best having netted just twice in the opening four rounds.Zahavi has also played just 214 minutes of league football, the most he completed was 83 against Groningen on matchday three, when he netted once in a seven-goal thriller which saw PSV claim a 5-2 success at home. Since joining the Eindhoveners, following a ruthless spell at Chinese Super League outfit Guangzhou City, the Israeli marksman has netted 22 times across 45 appearances in all competitions. He goes into this weekend’s clash against Feyenoord having faced them on two previous occasions but ending both contests with a goal. What better way to reignite his ‘golden shoe’ campaign while making a statement.
