Neymar looks set to remain in the French capital and pen a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain, according to the player’s father.

The Brazilian superstar has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and those rumours intensified immensely last summer following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Could Neymar join Real? Five key things to know…

  1. Since joining PSG for a record-breaking £200m deal from Barcelona in 2017 Neymar has been closely associated with a move to Real.
  2. Compatriot and Real Madrid left-back Marcelo has previously intimated a future move could happen.
  3. Speculation became rife following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus last summer.
  4. Rumours have once again intensified as the club look set for a summer overhaul following the reappointment of Zinedine Zidane.
  5. However, Neymar’s father has now relaxed reports after confirming his son is currently negotiating a new contract with PSG.

Real look set to undergo a summer of refurbishment following a tumultuous season with Neymar believed to be in the club’s crosshairs.

Zidane will be keen to bolster his attacking armoury, but Neymar Sr., who also operates as his son’s agent, has dampened reports of a possible transfer with the Paulistano set to negotiate fresh terms with the Parisians.

“He is in the second year of his contract [with PSG] so he still has three years before the end of his contract [in 2022],” Neymar Sr. told UOL.

“We are already talking about an extension with PSG.

“His name has been the subject of rumours ever since he was 17, from the moment that he made his professional debut.

“Neymar has only experienced two transfers in his life but there has been speculation for 10 years. The probability that he doesn’t leave is too big.

“People say ‘Neymar is in all the transfer rumours to all the big clubs in each window.’

“That signifies that his career is being well managed, he is always amongst the names (that matter).

“But that does not mean that he will go to one club or another.”

Who could Real sign this summer?

Naturally Los Blancos have been linked with a plethora of big names this summer including some from the Premier League.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba is a reported interest and he recently opened the door on a potential move, revealing it would be a “dream” to play under the watchful eye of compatriot and France legend Zidane.

“Like I’ve always said, Real Madrid is a dream for anyone,” he said while on international duty with France.

“There is also Zidane as a coach and it’s a dream for anybody who likes football.

“For now, I’m at Manchester. We don’t know what the future holds. I’m at Manchester and I’m happy.”

Eden Hazard is another name strongly linked with a transfer to the La Liga giants, and with just one-year left on his contract come the summer, a possible move away from Chelsea could be on the cards.

The diminutive Belgian – like Pogba – has described the chance to play for the Spanish club as a “dream” after previously starting in October that Real are “the best club in the world.”

Hazard added further fuel to fire earlier this month after hinting that he would choose a “white shirt” over a “blue shirt” when a reporter from Belgian outlet HLN posed a series of tongue in cheek questions about his future.
