Paris Saint-Germain will be expected to extend their lead at the top of Ligue 1 when they host defending champions Lille on Friday at 8pm (UK time).

Despite winning just one of their past three league matches, PSG remain seven points clear at the top of Ligue 1 after 11 matches and are already being tipped to have a comfortable route to retaining their title. The new season has not had the same start for defending champions Lille who sit a massive 13 points behind PSG down in 10th with four wins and three draws from their opening 11 matches, and are winless in their past two.

Marquinhos: PSG blocked Chelsea talks “straight away”

PSG enjoyed their summer in the transfer window, bringing in the likes of Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi and Lionel Messi as they looked to win back the Ligue 1 title and finally make their mark in the Champions League.

But it was not just incomings dominating the news, as Marquinhos was constantly linked with a move away from PSG. Chelsea were the club reportedly leading the race for his signature, or at least the one with the heaviest interest. In the end it was just interest as Marquinhos remained at PSG, being a part of their strong start to the new season.

And Marquinhos has revealed Chelsea didn’t get far in their interest, with PSG shutting down any talks immediately – proving the Brazilian’s important to them.

“It wasn’t even an offer. In fact, [PSG] blocked talks straight away,” he told Le Parisien recently.

“It shows the faith they have in me, it is an honour for a club like PSG to put such faith in me.

“The fact that others are interested in me means I am doing well. It gives me the motivation to go on, boost my training sessions and play even better.

“Paris and PSG are the only things on my mind.”

Marquinhos has started 10 of PSG’s 15 games across all competitions this season, with the French side conceding just seven goals while the Brazilian has been on the pitch, keeping five clean sheets.
